Bella is not just a cute doggie. She was rescued from a horrible fate that would see her drown in a river weeks after being born.
Her mom Luna is a female Beagle, just like her. Luna gave birth to Bella and four other puppies, only to be taken away by farmer Tono, who bought Luna some years ago to help him hunt.
Tono didn't want so many puppies, and he got to choose which puppy stays with him and which puppy will die prematurely.
Unfortunately and without having asked for it, Bella fell into the second group. But a kind soul found Bella on time and contacted a nearby animal shelter.
Months later I met Bella while on vacation in Northern Spain. She had found a beautiful home with a family and couldn't stop licking my hair while I was looking at her.
Moved by Bella, I decided to write a short story, and my husband translated it into Spanish. We submitted the story to the shelter, in the hope that they could use it to get more donations and increase their reach.
It all started with Bella
The shelter started a campaign with Bella's story, giving out pamphlets and sharing posts on social media. Months later and already back at home, the shelter contacted me and said
"Thanks to Bella's story, donations have increased 15-fold and the shelter is growing non-stop, with hundreds of pets being adopted every month. Ma'am, you truly have a gift. It would be a pity if you don't use it."
I discovered my passion. Next thing I did, I quit my corporate job and poured all my energy into writing stories for others. First for free, now as a business.
And every time I write for my clients, I think about this story and the impact it had on me. Because without Bella, I would still be searching for my dream career instead of writing this.
